Comedy of Stupidity - Revisited
I wrote this story two years ago. Reading it again makes me look even stupider.

____________________________________________

My car broke down last week. That was the first time in two years. It happened when I was in a hurry to the college in the morning, when I realized that I was a stupid driver who knew nothing about a car, not wanting to learn more about the “soul” of a car, stupidly waiting for the bad moment to come and panickedly react. Well, I am always that way.

So, I ended investing my money to ever sucking taxi drivers for two days to my workplace, which cost me nearly RM60. Too much for a stupid error. But, my stupidity worsened when I wanted to send my car for repair. I just didn’t know how. Did my car need to be towed? Whom to call? What to do? Where to send? A lot of ignorant questions which could have been avoided had I been more equipped with proper knowledge and a little intelligence. So I sought assistance from my friend.

“How do I send my car to a mechanic?”
“Just call Sahabat EON lah and they tow your car for free,” said my friend with a look of boredom on his face. I was thinking: Sahabat EON?
“Errr… I don’t think I am one of their sahabats.”
“What insurance do you have?”
I was hesitant and answered unconfidently, “Kurnia Insurans.”
“Then call them!”
“Errrr…ok.”
“Look.. like this lah. I heard Kurnia Insurans is not good. Why don’t you just call EON and ask them to tow your car. I think they can accept instant membership.”
“Mmmm… okay, I’ll do that.”

So, I surfed through the Internet, got their number and called. Sadly, the response was unexpectedly disappointing.

“Sorry sir, we cannot do that, and there’s no such thing as instant membership,” explained the serious operator.
“Why?”
“You have to fill up a form first, only then we can tow your car for free.”
“Can I get it done today?”
“No, it takes three weeks.”

Mama mia.

Disappointed, I hung up. And I just realized that there was one more obstacle: my car was registered using my sister’s name. So, I thought (thought!) I could not use my name and had to go through other troublesome processes to get my sister’s details in order to fill up a form. So, I was considering a quick action: just call any mechanics on earth! So they came to my apartment, checked my car, and found out there was a problem with a relay of the fuel pump (whatsoever!). Luckily, my car needed not to be towed. The cost: RM185.

I was so relieved my car was then startable. On the following day, I was walking toward my car when I realized that there was a strange sticker at the back of my car. It stated:

SAHABAT EON
Toll Free : 1-800-188-999

p.s. Moral of the story – Jangan Tak Pandang Belakang (Look at your back).

Stupid, Stupid, Stupid
Two years ago, I wanted to celebrate my friend’s birthday at Cameron Highlands. My friend and I had never been to this great place. To make it adventurous and elegant, we decided to go there by ourselves using my car. We did not mind the risks because believed that we were determined explorers. So confident and thrilled, I could not stop talking and smiling during the whole ride, imagining all the exciting events waiting for us. After about 2 hour journey on the highway, I turned into a kampung street. Suddenly, I thought I was lost. So, I pulled over and asked a Chinese man selling fruits beside the street.

Tumpang tanya Uncle, is this the right way to Cameron Highland?” I asked. He looked confused and said, “This is not the way to Cameron Highlands.”
“So which is the right way?”
“You should go through Tapah, not Bentong!”
“Hah? What!?”

I did not believe what I heard. To double check things, I called my boss and asked for her direction. When I told her where I was, she laughed hysterically. I was furious. After going through a stimulating drive on Karak Highway, I was told that I had to go back to KL and made my way to PLUS highway. Only then I realized that I was totally at the opposite side of Cameron Highlands!

That was so unimaginably stupid. I did not blame my friend for it was, in the first place, my idea and I was the driver, so I was supposed to know better than him. And I should’ve asked my other knowledgeable friends about this. Instead, I blindly followed my instinct and successfully made myself an idiot.

Of course, we never made it to Cameron highlands on that lucky-turn-pathetic day. To undo and compensate the damage, we went to Bukit Tinggi, which I ‘accidentally’ discovered on Karak Highway on our way back to KL (what a fortunate rescue!)

As a matter of fact, that was only one of the many stupid moments in my life. Nothing was more admirable compared to the next pathetic story I am about to tell you. There was another incident when I was doing my shopping at a supermarket. I was in dire need for a creamer. I was looking for a condensed milk when colourful cans of F & N caught my attention. So I hurriedly bought a dozen of them. Happy, I quickly made myself a hot Nescafe at home, only to find out later that the supposedly condensed milk was actually evaporated creamer for baking cakes!

I definitely learnt two important things from this array of humiliating experiences – one, never assume that I know everything in the world (so I must never act intelligent when in fact I am not); two, laugh and laugh at myself more frequently so that I will feel better and be able to take more positive lessons from those stupid turning points. Oh yes, after some time, when I look back at those ‘smart’ things I have done, I really laugh at my own self. To make it more valuable, I do not even mind sharing these ‘amazing’ stories with my friends. Surprisingly, I will feel so light-hearted whenever we laugh together at my own heroic acts. I feel as if I have passed one of the great challenges in life and been given the license to move forward.

Saleh Ben Joned was probably right; being able to laugh at ourselves is one of the vital steps towards self-improvement. If we keep denying our own weaknesses and refuse to laugh at our own mistakes, we will soon be part of a complacent society who will never progress.

So, what is your laughable stupid moment?

When Cekmi Got Sewel
When Cekmi got sewel, he did this.

With a stylish RM9.00 hair-do at He-Cut Shop done by a professional mamak with a free bottle of mineral water, Cekmi finally released at least 82.5% of the tension accumulated during his final examination period.

He could now study without much hair-rising headache. And he could now spare much of the time wasted in the morning getting a right hairstyle for his studies. Less worries.

Isn’t he perasan cute? Mawi FC must be smiling. World!

Don't Do This
“Don’t you ever, ever, dare doing this in our kampung!” said my sister.
For few delighful minutes, we were laughing hysterically.
“Why not? It’s a new modern style!” I finally said, still holding the giggles.
“Modern style? Shame on you! Malu oi!”
“For your information sister, I bought this at a shop and the sales girl did not say anything about babies.”
“Hello! Can’t you see the rope on top of it? It’s obviously for a little baby, you idiot!”
“No!! It’s for the food!”

So, what’s wrong with this pink food cover?
