Stepping OUT!

Catch me, if you can lah

Let’s shower-dance, baby..

So if you call this a shower party, think again. Because these people did it so daringly at the very entrance of the Experimental Theatre of the National Arts Academy!

Whoa! So much for the art.

But, I was deeply thrilled and amused with the almost-stripped show. So outrageous, extraordinary, spontaneous, artistic, hilarious and definitely stepping-out!

Shower me!

Taxi, please..

Okay, it was actually the intermission show during the Stepping-OUT dance show held in the Experimental Theatre. The 3-day event showcased 16 different dances from the students of the academy. There was a mixture of modern and traditional choreography. Overall, they tried very hard to step out of the ordinary dancing styles by performing, for instance, some extremely bizarre and erotic actions. I was intrigued with one sexy performance which featured one look-at-my-cleavage lady and her three bitchy maids. The movements were utterly awesome, narrative and suggestive. Totally mind-boggling!

There was another performance showing a girly man as a main actor that surely, and typically, attracted everybody’s attention with his loud character (yes, so slapstick). Some dancers couldn’t be bothered exposing 95% of their bodies to the sex-cited audiences. It was like watching a drag show! And I just couldn’t believe my eyes witnessing all these artistic craps at a national academy of arts! For free! I thought I could only see them at a cheap underground discotheque.

Bravo Akademi Seni Kebangsaan! Your missions were surely accomplished. The shows were absolutely stepping out!

Satisfied Cekmi

Trained To Be Trained
I love training.

Early last month, when I was told that I was going to attend a training on Communication and Interpersonal Skills at Sheraton Subang Hotel, I was so thrilled that I quickly postponed all the classes on 14 and 15 February. Stupid cekmi, only later that he realized the training was supposed to be on 14 and 15 March. Hah!

Out of extreme excitement, I could not wait to attend this training (or any other trainings, it doesn’t matter). For some people, going to training could mean that the employers are dissatisfied with their poor performance and hope they will miraculously change within a day or two after the ‘brainwashing’ sessions conducted by tip-top trainers. Yes, to certain extent, it might as well apply to my current situation. What’s more, the two-day training that I have just attended did prove a lot more than being able to please an unhappy boss. It has also convinced me that it was worth postponing and having to replace all my classes this Saturday. These are the top 5 reasons.

5. Johor Room

Conducted in a small suite, with almost-complete facilities, with only 5 trainees, it was a perfect spot for a luxurious getaway. This effectively made possible for positive small-group quarrels and fights among the trainees. More importantly, with closer eye contact, I managed to get all the attention of my pretty trainer.

4. The Trainer

Jessica, our trainer, was unbelievable. She was a splendid talker, ‘actress’ and entertainer who knew how to amuse her audience with all those intelligent ‘nonsense’ – her passion in marine life and her political ramblings over Samy Vellu. True, she was indeed superb. Looking at her energetic and fun character, one could easily be deceived with her appearance – she is 41, but she speaks like a genius 17 year-old girl.

All loud-mouthed trainees with Jessica (the cutest one tu…)

3. Time-out

Funny, all the participants were my colleagues from the same department, except Anna, an Indian girl from a computer company. So, you can imagine the hilarity and loudness we had messed up during the whole training session. To be honest, we were actually taking the time out, by doing some funny things we couldn’t possibly do in the office. We were like kids in disguise. Teaching the same course – Business Communication – we were more than eager to merrily ‘show off’ our skills. Poor Anna, she could have been intimidated by our extreme laughter and jokes, but she really could make a good friend.

Anna & The King

2. A Bitter Truth to Digest

On a serious note, training is supposedly a good ground for us to improvise ourselves. Having done so many group activities on interpersonal skills, I learnt one important thing about myself – I am a bad listener. When I was asked to repeat 10 things said to me, I managed to repeat only 3 things. So poor in listening, I self-rated myself at 3 out 5 points. Okay, I admitted that I hardly listen to people these days. So, I must improve on my listening skills, so that I will be a good manager, successful in life, live to the fullest, bla bla bla.

1. The Food

Yes! Here comes the most prominent feature of a good training session – foods. So marvelous and exquisite, the vast array of buffet served in the 5-star hotel was indescribably intoxicating that my dieting seemed out of fashion. Well, it is not everyday that these financially-deprived people had the chance to enjoy this hotel extravagance. At the end of the day, everybody had a jolly stomach. So full, I felt like a spoilt happy fool. After all, training is all about good foods, isn’t it?

So send proposals to your bosses and go training. Be trained. You’ll love it.

Grand Certificate-giving Ceremony (yo yo…)

happy cekmi (until terduduk)

THE Weekend
I had not experienced such a great weekend for so long I almost forgot how to spend it in a lazy-fun way. My weekends are usually mundane, filled with delayed unfinished businesses, stucked alone in my own world and isolated from a social life. So, when Jimi and Aye visited me two days ago, I had never expected that it would turn out so pleasantly hedonistic.

The real reason for their visit was to watch a matinee show of Puteri Gunung Ledang The Musical on Sunday (the second time for me!). But before doing that, we did quite a number of wonderful stuffs – cooking (gulai lemak telur which accidentally turned into scramble eggs), watching amazing DVDs back to back (Brokeback Mountain, Transamerica, Bukak Api, Just Like Heaven), going karaokeing (Aye sang 21 ‘ambitious’ songs), lepaking mindlessly at a mamak stall till 4pm – all were perfect grounds for me to appreciate the blessing of friendship (Aye, you might be a jijik loudmouth, but that's the mark of unforgettable hilarity).

The climax of our hedonistic activities was watching PGLTM. Seated in the second front row with a crystal-clear view of beautiful lips of Tiara Jacquelina singing melodious songs, we were acting like wild children, excited and cheered at dancer’s mesmerising moves, musician’s live intoxicating music, and choir’s harmonious voices. With my friends’ presence, I shared the passionate love of music so unbelievably it made me exhilarated with thrill and ecstasy.

When they were leaving me back to Ipoh, I felt a sudden craving, the unexpected melancholy, the same feeling I used to feel before taking off on the bas express leaving my parents in Kelantan. Yes, I felt it. Not for my family, but for people called friends. And yes Jimi and Aye, I started to miss all the crazy laughter, nonsensical jokes, wild gossips, all the warmth and comfort we had played around all over the weekend. How I truly missed moments like these. How I crazily missed all the insulting remarks we made for the stupid presenters during Anugerah Bintang Popular (fucking bitch, didn’t they?)

Thank you Jimi and Aye, for your kindnesses, for making my weekend a memorable one. One thing for sure, I think my orange t-shirt really makes a true statement about our lives:
